Varatouch Technology Inc.
Atrua, a Campbell maker of "intelligent" touch controls for mobile phones, handheld games and other personal electronic devices, acquired Varatouch in February 2006 for an undisclosed amount. The company makes analog navigation and control products. All but one of 10 Varatouch employees remained in El Dorado Hills. Varatouch CEO G. Craig Vachon became vice president of corporate development, and Varatouch founder Michael Rogers was named Altrua's vice president of tech transfer. Established in 1987, the company began as a manufacturer of remote controls, and eventually joysticks, for audiovisual systems but struggled to compete in the consumer electronics marketplace. Varatouch abandoned manufacturing and adopted its intellectual-property licensing business model in 2003.
