Meridian Systems
In October 2006, this producer of software for large construction management projects announced it was being acquired by Trimble Navigation Ltd. of Sunnyvale. The multinational Trimble, which makes Global Positioning Systems technology, among other things, also has a construction and engineering business. Terms of the all-cash transaction were not disclosed. Meridian retained its brand, work force and Folsom site, where 60 of its 100 employees worked. John Bodrozic, who co-founded Meridian in 1993, remains itspresident.

Serious Magic Inc.
Technology giant Adobe Systems of San Jose seemed to agree this Folsom maker of video-editing software offered serious magic and announced in October 2006 that it had acquired the company for an unspecified amount. CEO Mark Randall, who founded Serious Magic in 2001 with others, joined Adobe as chief strategist for its Dynamic Media division. He says Adobe retained more than half of the 35 employees and has opened the Adobe building in Folsom to accommodate a growing staff. "Former Serious Magicians have been involved in several high-profile Adobe product launches," Randall said via email.

Sierra Logic Inc.

In a $180 million deal, Costa Mesa-based Emulex Corp. acquired this Roseville semiconductor company that develops high-performance chips to sell to manufacturers of data-storage gear. The chips enable low-cost serial ATA disk drives to function at levels rivaling more expensive parallel "fiber channel" or SCSI drives. Sierra Logic's track record will "enhance Emulex's presence as a storage industry leader," the publicly traded Emulex said after the sale, which closed in October 2006. Sierra Logic, incorporated in 2001 by four former executives of Agilent Technologies in Roseville, had obtained $32 million in venture capital and customers such as NEC Corp. Sierra Logic's 70 employees stayed put in Roseville, with CEO Bob Whitson becoming a senior vice president.
