As the year draws to a close, Prosper has compiled a comprehensive update of developments at the emerging companies that made our annual lists of "Baby Blue Chips" since 2004. These are companies in the Sacramento region that displayed the most promise and were winnowed from nominations by readers, local venture-capital investors and an editorial committee, as well as others emerging from our independent research.

One thing that stands out in our follow-up, in addition to the growth reported by the companies, is ownership change. Here, in alphabetical order by yearly categories, are the updates:


2006-2007

Akros Silicon Inc.
This well-funded, Folsom-based chip designer in March obtained $10.1 million in second-round financing led by Levensohn Venture Partners of San Francisco. Three of the investors had contributed to the first-round financing of $9 million in 2005. March was also the month Akros shipped its first products to paying customers. Two months later, it opened an office in Silicon Valley with engineering, design and sales staff. Akros also announced its AS1100 family of products, touting them as the "smallest footprint and highest integration for power over ethernet-powered device applications." The technology allows network-connected electronic devices, such as Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) phones and security cameras, to draw power from the network, eliminating the need for a separate cord and outlet.
