Money Dice

When it comes to Wall Street, trusting in this little Tiffany wagering cube may not be such a bad idea. In fact, Lady Luck (or blind chance, if you prefer) may turn out to be a better financial adviser than you thought. A study from Journal of Financial and Strategic Decisions showed that a portfolio formed on the advice of professionals statistically outperforms a random portfolio selection for only a one-week period. In the longer term, the random stocks perform better than the pros for a six-month holding period. And, hey, this sterling silver, half-inch Buy/Sell/Hold die is classier than picking stocks with a dart board and, at $95, is cheaper than paying broker fees.

My First Million

Andrea Vedovato loves his job as waiter at The Waterboy so much that he maintains even a million dollars wouldn't spur drastic change in his life. He would finish paying off his house and generously help out his family, but he wouldn't want a Ferrari or motorcycle or even a different career. Vedovato will always work with food and people. "It is something I do naturally," he says.

Vedovato, 34 and born and raised in Italy, notices that many in America have misconceptions about Italian food. "They think it's all meatballs and marinara, but it's more than that." Rather, he loves sharing his country's lesser known fine cheeses and meats. That's where a million dollars could come in handy to make his dream of owning an Italian Deli a reality. Back in Italy he saw high unemployment and realizes that if he wants to be successful, he's in the right place. "This is the country to do it," he says.

Where's the wierdest place you've ever hid money?

"Well, I have put money in a coffee can and buried it. Unfortunately, it rained, and when I took the money back out it was maybe one day away from being ruined. I had to peel it apart, dry it in the sun and take it to the bank. That was $4,000."

"My sock."
-- Chemical engineer, 28

"Definitely the bra, for going out and not wanting to get money stolen. In the house, probably in the freezer, which probably is not that weird."
-- Housewife, 41
