KOVR — the “innovator” — has a web presence that isn’t that different than KCRA’s or KXTV’s. They still don’t know how to use multimedia as effectively as you have demonstrated on your site.
Whoever is producing and editing these pieces absolutely understands storytelling, which is refreshing — and an unexpected delight in an online version of a magazine where I was really just expecting to see more photographs!
I was design director at KOVR for six years (during the time Cristina Mendonsa was a young reporter) and have freelanced at KCRA and KXTV. There’s a lot of back story your article didn’t cover (like the time last year when KOVR’s news director angrily spray painted a statement on the wall of the news set after KCRA got on the air first with breaking news).
I think the back story is the real story, and it’s quite a tale. Perhaps you’ll want to revisit local TV with a different angle at some point.
