The Biancani Basics

Al Biancani trains plenty of pros, but most of the people who pass through his doors are aspiring young athletes and overworked execs. The motto of his facility: “Where the best get better.” He doesn’t go easy on anyone. “That’s what they pay me for,” he says. Biancani has no “one routine fits all” workout, but for all his clients, he includes three primary components:

Total Body Lifting

Hit all the major muscle groups and don’t skimp on strengthening the abdominals and back for core strength.

Cardio

Give yourself 30-40 minutes of heart pounding per session. It’s the one muscle you can’t live without.

Range of Motion

Stretch both before and after a workout. It will help your muscles recover more quickly. Strength and range of motion will also help you bounce back from injury, which is why pro athletes manage to get back on the court when you’d still be hobbling around in Neoprene sleeves, reeking of Bengay.
