This one goes under the not so practical/useful in everyday life category. But, it's way up there on the cool scale so here we go. The "ATLAS Powered Rope Ascender" allows you to reverse rappel UP a building, cliff, or anything with a rope attached to it at speeds up to 10 feet per second. Right now it's been released for urban warfare and rescue operations, but word on the street is that it could soon be available to the public. I can't wait for the day when I can skip waiting for an elevator and just reverse rappel up to the places I need to go.
