Florence, Lucca, San Gimignano, Siena, Montalcino, Montepulciano, Assisi, Orvieto, Rome … Prosper copy editor Barbara Anderson, word maven and major cycling enthusiast, recently returned from a three-week bicycle tour of Tuscany and Umbria with 18 members of the Davis Bike Club. She is seen here in the duomo in Siena where artisans were working on refurbishing the floor mosaics. In an email between gelati and pizzas, she wrote: “Most of the year they are covered (the mosaics, not the artisans), but once a year they are uncovered for viewing, and we got lucky.” As is Prosper to have her on the team.

“Architectural design is a complex practice that demands artistic expressiveness and imagination within the confines of engineering precision, zoning and land-use regulations, construction budgeting, energy efficiency, social responsibility and other defining parameters.
“We spoke with several leading designers and building professionals about what they believe constitutes ‘greatness’ in commercial architecture.”
Marti Childs and Jeff March are partners in EditPros, delivering writing and editing services for print and electronic publications.

Stephanie Flores
(UNPLUGGED: A Minivan and a Plan, page 56)
“My journey with the Cook family and their adoption started with researching the Sierra Adoption Services website. I don’t know why I was surprised to find many familiar executives and companies from our region had donated money to this nonprofit. I asked Kim Rhinehelder of Sierra Adoption how she was able to reach out to these businesses with so many nonprofits vying for corporate philanthropy. She said business people understand the bottom line.
“According to American Institutes for Research, the state investment for each foster child’s residential and educational costs average $75,000 per year and can run as high as double that amount. This is compared to the $5,000 taxpayer cost to place one child with Sierra Adoption.”
Stephanie Flores is a Sacramento-based freelance writer and adjunct professor of journalism at American River College.

Judie Fertig Panneton
(Global Biz 101, page 40)
“Taking your products to the global market sounds like a dream that may, at first glance, appear to be too complicated to become a reality. However, after doing research for this article, I realized there’s so much help available in Sacramento that achieving your dreams may be easier than you think.
“All a business person has to do is to take advantage of what’s offered at the Northern California World Trade Center and the U.S. Commercial Service to get started. Or, you could hire a trade import/export specialist. Testing the waters is just a website click, phone call or email away.”
Judie Fertig Panneton is the co-author of “The Breast Cancer Book of Strength and Courage.” She writes for several national and local newspapers and magazines, and continues to do TV reporting.

Jennifer Teel Wolter
(Lights, Camera, Get Reality, page 44)
“The whole concept of reality TV fascinates me. You’ve got a program where the ‘actors’ aren’t paid and often end up looking like fools, yet people still clamor to be a part of it. But what really caught me off guard when writing this story was how much TV production activity is happening right here in the Sacramento region; it’s amazing.”
A Sacramento native and an unashamed cheerleader for the region, Jennifer Teel Wolter works in the advertising department at Raley’s.
