Investing in a talented staff, continual training and the freshest ingredients are a large part of her strategy. But some think it’s her hands-on philosophy that truly sets the bakery apart.
Philipp loves to invite brides to experiment with different cake decorating techniques and encourages children to try their hands at baking. The constant input from customers, combined with Philipp’s own passion for creativity, keeps the shop from becoming a run-of-the mill bakery and makes customers eager for more.
With much of her summer booked with wedding cake orders, Philipp’s strategy of topping old-fashioned quality with modern flair seems to be working.
“I’m very proud of what we’re doing,” she says with a wide smile. “This is what I’ve been groomed for; this is what all my life’s experiences have been for. It’s an honor to be the next chapter in the bakery’s history. I get to be the ellipses; I’m the ‘dot-dot-dot.’ ”
