Beer Power
It was with great pleasure that I saw my favorite beer gracing the cover of your magazine (“Alt Energy,” May 2006). It didn’t surprise me that Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. was ahead of the curve on using alternative energy sources. They were always ahead on making good beer.
    I saw my first bottle of Sierra Nevada Pale Ale at a fundraiser in the early ’80s.
The organizer was a friend, so I conned him out of most of the leftovers. When I began to run low, I called Sierra Nevada’s office in Chico to find out where I could get more and to try to invest money in their company. They weren’t accepting investment capital, but they did point me to one of the first retail outlets they had in what we now call Silicon Valley. Since then, they’ve been making good decisions for our environment, as well as the company, and they have certainly continued to make good beer. I sure wish they had let me invest in the company, though. Maybe I’d be writing from my yacht instead of my office.
