Today, a growing innovation culture is visible in the Sacramento region, particularly at the grassroots level, where tech spinoffs are offering unprecedented opportunities for professionals, employers and investors. Nurturing these entrepreneurial sparks is the reason the Sacramento Area Regional Technology Alliance created a “genealogy map” of mother companies and their progeny.
In this three-part series, we’ll look at how the map works for investors and enterprising tech executives, how communities and cities are tapping into the evolving spinoff landscape, and how UC Davis has been a prolific source for startups and research connections. Above all, the SARTA family tree is the roadmap that shows exactly who is in the Sacramento technology family, where they came from, where they may be going and what competition is out there.
Kent Rhodes calls himself a “serial entrepreneur.” He is one of a special breed of technology owners who thrive on the high-pressure excitement of starting a business from scratch.
