Grease Monkeys No More

Among the first things on the to-do list of people settling into a new town or neighborhood is searching for a doctor, dentist, maybe a hair stylist or barber, someone they trust to provide good service at a fair price. But there’s one professional they often overlook until they have car problems — an auto service adviser.
     “When you find somebody who’s good, I’d stick with him or her,” says Jeff Stubblefield, parts and service director at Downtown Ford in Sacramento. “When you develop a relationship with a service adviser and you just click, stick with that person, because it’s probably worth it.”
     Being a savvy consumer when dealing with auto dealerships for service means always getting a written estimate up front. “That’s your right. You’re entitled to that,” Stubblefield says. “If somebody doesn’t give you an estimate, I’d be a little bit leery.”
