The small bastion of nine employees who were almost the entire headquarters payroll of Varatouch Technology Inc. will continue holding down the fort in El Dorado Hills, says Campbell, Calif.-based Atrua Technologies Inc. Atrua, maker of “intelligent” touch controls for mobile phones, handheld games and other personal electronic devices, acquired Varatouch in February.
Varatouch, a Baby Blue Chip winner (February 2005), makes analog navigation and control products. Analog input is quickly becoming a prime requirement for navigation in mobile phones. The company once had more than 50 employees at its Roseville manufacturing plant.
The remaining Varatouch staff will continue managing engineering, marketing and sales from its building in El Dorado Hills Business Park, south of Hwy. 50, says Carl Temme, vice president of marketing for Atrua.
“The people there have expertise in analog controls, which are great products and very complementary to the software platform we have that unifies the entire product line. It’s also a complementary set of people,” adds Temme. “We’re used to dealing with distributed teams. We have small offices around the world.”
Former Varatouch CEO G. Craig Vachon, 41, now is vice president of corporate development for Atrua; Tim Martin, who headed sales at the acquired company, is vice president of sales for the entire Atrua sales staff; Michael Rogers, founder of Varatouch, is Altrua’s vice president of tech transfer.
