The World Needs Fewer Cars
I read with great interest “The World is Flat” review (Executive Reading, October 2005). I believe Teichert and Kaganovich did a creditable job — but the use of the term “forces to be reckoned with” is not really the point. In truth those 10 “flatteners” are a challenge to us — BUT they also provide an opportunity.
    We have long commute times, air pollution, high gasoline prices, fuel shortages and the almost constant push to build more and bigger roads. The use of internet communications technology should be used to help solve these problems. We do not need to have everyone traveling to the central city and back every day.
    I believe that Tom Friedman has done us a great favor by laying it all out for us. Now we need to get to work to adapt to this new situation.
