Cultivating Business in Sacramento
I would like to offer a simple yet relevant idea for consideration. I think in this complex world we live in, with so much to do and so little time to get it done, “being easy to do business with” is a powerful influence on where one chooses to work, live or establish a business. I cannot predict which is the next big successful industry or company. But I do know that if this region has its head on right we will retain and attract many successful businesses and continue to do so in the future. So what does “being easy to do business with,” mean?
1. Having pro versus con business regulations in the cities and counties of our region.
2. Having an incentive plan for our city and county employees. The plan would provide them with additional income based on hitting satisfaction scores on an annual basis and for pleasing their tax-paying customers or internal customers. The incentive bonus would be 50 percent based on hitting the satisfaction goals of the external or internal customer and 50 percent based on the administrative efficiency. It would mean getting things done with the city or county faster, easier, and better than any other political subdivision in the nation.
3. Having a transportation plan (we need it now, not a plan for 20 years from now) that works and does not have us wasting large portions of our time, adding stress and reducing our quality of life.
4. Having effective education that will provide qualified candidates for the work force of companies we want to attract–, and keep– in the region.
5. Have a range of housing prices that allow first-time players to participate before
they are 35.
