Hi-Rise Storage
By Neil Michel
Decisions, decisions. Picking a vehicle for his morning commute presents Granite Bay’s Tim Strann with a dilemma that goes beyond getting out of the garage. The former-pro-racer-turned-auto-mechanic must choose between his “extremely modified” Dodge Viper (which thanks to a Hennesey Venom conversion boasts an awesome 620 horsepower) and his “completely gutted” Mazda Miata now powered by a small-block Ford Mustang motor capable of thrusting the tiny car from zero to 60 in just three seconds.
While traveling the globe in the 1990s to install cellular phone networks in places as far away as Africa, Strann managed to fit in a good deal of road racing. And he still holds several records, including the fastest time ever clocked between Prague and Berneau. “I drove the Miata 160 kilometers in a little under an hour.”
If you’re looking to catch a glimpse of Strann’s racing machines, you’ll probably have to visit the race track. Tempting as it is to drive these street-legal race cars to work, Strann actually commutes in a late-model Dodge truck.
Even if you don’t build your own race cars, vertical storage is an increasingly popular solution for boosting usable space inside residential garages. Just make sure you’ve had your coffee in the morning before backing out.
