'Insomnia' Strikes a Chord; Closet Style; and Prosper Awes a Pro
A Familiar Cry
Thank you for the business advice and support that Prosper is bringing to Sacramento businesses. In that vein, I wanted to respond to the all too familiar cry of dismay expressed by one of your readers in “Insomnia” (July 2005), “We can’t seem to get up early enough to get everything done…”
As this reader expressed, many people start (or buy) a small business expecting to be relieved of the burdens of a boss. What they often don’t fully consider is the fact that they now have many more tasks, and, more importantly, types of tasks, to do as a business owner – they now have the customer service and the data entry, the accounting and the innovation. Not only are time management skills important but, even more critical, is the ability to seek and find help for tasks that you don’t do well, or fall behind on – no one is good at everything.
The Greater Sacramento Small Business Development Center is a grant- funded organization that provides support – in the form of a panel of experts — to help entrepreneurs manage their business, especially in areas that are difficult for them personally. Business owners can meet with CPAs, attorneys, marketing consultants, HR managers, sales specialists, etc., all for free and all acting as the business’ internal support staff.
Why do we do it? Because for every dollar that is invested in the growth of small business, it is estimated that $7 is returned to the community in the form of employment, health care services, tax revenue and overall quality of life, whereas the cost of a business failure can be devastating.
Warm regards and Thanks,
