Mike McKeever, executive director of the Sacramento Area Council of Governments, learned early in his career that finding solutions to tough problems means looking for a “sliver of light” — discovering that seemingly small window of opportunity that can lead to innovation.
His job is to keep things running smoothly at SACOG and implement initiatives under Board Chairman and Placer County Supervisor Ted Gaines and the vice chair, Sacramento Mayor Heather Fargo.
McKeever succeeded outgoing director Martin Tuttle in December, the same day SACOG unanimously approved the ambitious and forward-thinking SACOG Blueprint Project, a plan that closely links transportation and land development over the next 50 years, the period during which the region’s population is expected to nearly double.
“It’s mainly about land use and how our growth pattern affects our transportation system and air quality,” he says of the Blueprint, drawn last year through input of citizens at a series of regional workshops.
