     Hence, it’s recommended that a company’s dress code not only adhere to the government regulations, but also be based on legitimate business reasons and, above all, be applied consistently. 
     Where most dress codes fall short these days is in specifics and in the areas of trends, such as visible body art and piercing. Most human resource experts agree it’s very important for managers to separate their personal views from their company’s and to be educated about religious or cultural forms of expression – one person’s facial disfigurement is another’s Maori Ta Moko spiritual practice.     
     Ultimately, a dress code is only as great as the people who believe in it. An effective one can be rather concise, as in the example set by San Antonio, Texas-based Trinity University’s Elizabeth Huth Coates Library.     
     While it doesn’t specifically ban types of clothing, the library’s code instead offers a simple summation: “Dress that is extremely casual could be interpreted to mean we don’t care.”
