     So where will this driving, and more outwardly focused, passion take the university next?     
     Biggart points to UCD’s need to build on strengths in the life sciences while becoming more entrepreneurial and taking quicker advantage of opportunities presented by legislative shifts, such as Prop 71, the stem-cell initiative approved by voters last year, and the cyber-security advances initiated by the Homeland Security Act.      
     “These days you have to respond much more rapidly,” she says. “We need the local business community to step up and develop at the rate we’re moving.”
