The recent courtship of Las Vegas for the NBA All-Star game in 2007 – promoted largely by the Maloofs – is just another pause for concern. Spokesperson Brown admitted that the Kings have received inquiries from other cities. “Those calls are returned by (Kings’ president) John Thomas as a courtesy, but we refuse to engage in any dialogue with anyone.”
“Finding a solution in Sacramento is our only option.  We owe it to our fans for the tremendous support they’ve given us over the years,” she says.
That solution must include a “willing partner” as she puts it, an oblique reference to local government or landowners in North Natomas stepping up to share in the financial risk.  “Moving forward, we’re still optimistic that an agreement can be reached.”
What if the Kings decide to roar into another town to call home? Hayes of SACTO shudders at the thought. “People would point to Sacramento and say, ‘They can’t even keep a successful basketball team.’ It would be horrific.”
