With a shift in employee attitudes in the 1990s and heightened market competition, executives are looking for ways to enhance their people skills and boost their leadership aptitude to maximize profits. Many are turning to companies that specialize in facilitating off-site challenges or on-site workshops designed to improve communication, nurture trust and foster teamwork.
From mountaintop insights to classroom cruises, management training is empowering today’s workers to become tomorrow’s leaders.
A survival trek into the eastern slope of the Sierra, for example, is one of the most aggressive approaches to raising consciousness to achieve greater results, personally and professionally.
Michael Ziegler, CEO and president of Pride Industries in Roseville, found more than self-revelation in training he received through the Mountain Valley chapter of the American Leadership Forum (ALF). “What’s most powerful to me is the concept of diversity that goes way beyond the word,” he says.
An average of 25 participants in the year-long ALF program are nominated by former graduates, with applications open to community leaders and business executives in Sacramento, Placer, El Dorado, Yolo and north Solano counties.
