“We live in such a high-stress world that people don’t know how to relax. Even when they’re asleep at night, they’re not in deep, restorative sleep,” says Zimmerman, who has written 14 books and teaches self-hypnosis techniques.
“When we’re in a state of deep relaxation, as in hypnosis, our bodies release endorphins and other chemicals that relax us,” she adds. “When we’re calmer, we approach life differently and we don’t lay this map of stress on our face.” She’s practiced daily self-hypnosis the past 15 years.
“My hair is certainly whiter than it was when I was in my 40s,” acknowledges Zimmerman, 58. “But I look at least 10 years younger than I am. I have no lines on my face to speak of.”
