No Sale
Not Because I Didn't Have the Goods, I Just Didn't Believe

It happens to the best of us.
My latest “no sale” wasn’t with a big account, a potential new account, or even someone with whom I’ve done business in the past 10 years; it was with the local constable, the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
Having left a successful meeting in which I placed six new items, I flew down Highway 99 feeling the ever fleeting rush a salesperson feels after a sale…and relishing the shortlived success in our what have you done for me today? world.
The cell phone rang, and the open road was the perfect setting to discuss with a contractor a small remodeling project going on at home.
Being somewhat distracted, I vaguely noticed a commotion in the center median. It appeared that a black sedan had lost control and was spinning a doughnut in the dry grass, its wheels creating a rooster tail of debris high into the air. As I changed lanes to give the out-of-control car more room, I noticed the black spinning sedan was now partially white…
