COMPARE APPLES TO APPLES
I am writing to you in regards to your article about Sheriff Blanas in the November edition of Prosper.
In the 6th paragraph you try to compare patrol staffing in the Sheriff’s Department (SSD) with patrol staffing at the Sacramento Police Department (SPD). Unfortunately, you are comparing their patrol staffing, to our total sworn officers. The Sheriff’s Department has approximately 1,800 deputies to the SPD’s 662 police officers.
The patrol force at SPD is 239. The patrol force at SSD is 251. Neither one is sufficient to provide appropriate service to the citizens of the City and County of Sacramento. However, it is important to compare apples to apples when presenting stories of this nature.
In the future, if you are writing articles in the area of law enforcement in our region, I would be happy to help you fact check your information. Please feel free to contact me any time.
