     “We are the softer side of Gold’s,” he adds. “We expect 55 percent of our members will be women.” These serious fitness gyms provide childcare for their members but cater to the health and fitness of adults.            
     The basic individual enrollment fee is $119 and recently quoted monthly dues were $59 on a month-to-month agreement. The 42,000-square-foot facility can accommodate up to 6,000 members.  

Express and Niche Fitness Clubs
     In the $19 to $40 individual monthly dues range are small express workout clubs in neighborhood strip malls that offer limited services to a targeted group, usually beginners. Hours are shorter and most are closed Sundays.
     The Slender Lady franchise is similar but expands the concept into a weight-loss center with nutritional and motivational programs and minimal spa services, such as massage and airbrush tanning. Some offer yoga and Pilates classes.
     These new franchise chains can serve as feeders for full-service gyms. As members reach fitness goals, they move on to more challenging workout programs.
