Can Local Levees Withstand The Big One

Katrina was arguably the worst natural disaster in U.S. history. Are Sacramento’s levees prepared for an event of such magnitude?
    Dr. David Ford, 55, CEO of Sacramento-based David Ford Consulting Engineering, says the big difference between New Orleans and Sacramento isn’t geography.
    It’s preparedness.
    For more than 15 years, Ford has consulted city, county and state governments here and throughout the continental United States on flood management, flood warning systems and decision support. Ford contends the Sacramento region is better positioned to handle a disaster on the scale of Katrina because people are better educated about preparedness and local government is committed to working together.
