Davis, Brulte Talk Policy
Former Gov. Gray Davis recently joined the University of California, Los Angeles as a distinguished policy fellow. Davis, who is also an attorney, will serve as a guest lecturer in classes, participate in panels and serve as a resource for faculty and students on issues involving California state politics at UCLA’s School of Public Affairs. All things being fair, former state senate minority leader Jim Brulte also was appointed as a policy fellow. Brulte reportedly said the pair could bring students two different perspectives on a “very tumultuous” period in California history.
It’ll be interesting to see if the uni-versity’s lectures are full when these two are headlining.
Schwarzenegger’s Levee Replacement Team
The governor took no prisoners when he replaced the entire State Reclamation Board in late September. It’s no secret that the administration was taking the state’s flood safety very seriously. According to the governor, the changing of the guard brings the state one step closer to “protecting communities and the economy” from (otherwise) eminent flood damage.
This drastic move by Schwarzenegger is an important piece of a larger strategy to push the Legislature and federal government for financial support to fix and reinforce our neglected and vulnerable levee system. To be sure, this new board will be pressured to make things happen.
