Implantable RFID Tags

Medical Gain Or Tool of Big Brother

Radio frequency identification is an emerging technology that uses microchips to track the location and activities of people, animals and merchandise, and stores information about them. For example, RFID tags may be embedded in bracelets given to newborns in hospitals to prevent mix-ups. Or the tags may be used to store medical data or control access to a secure facility.
    The VeriChip is the first such device to be approved by the federal government for implantation in humans. The chip and its accompanying scanner and database systems are manufactured by a subsidiary of Applied Digital, a publicly traded company (Nasdaq: ADSX) based in Del Ray Beach, Fla. The chip is the size of a grain of rice and is injected into the upper arm in a simple outpatient procedure.
