Feng Shui, the Legislature and You!

Assembly Concurrent Resolution 144 (Yee — D-San Francisco) has been sitting at the Capitol since March. This measure would urge the Califor nia Building Standards Commission to adopt building standards that pro mote feng shui principles and publish these standards in the California Building Standards Code.
Established more than 4,000 years ago in ancient China, feng shui means wind (feng) and water (shui). Chinese practitioners have focused their studies on understanding how people are affected by their immedi ate surroundings.
This measure would urge local design-review boards and other appropriate agencies to consider design concepts that allow for the use of feng shui. “The structure of a building can affect a person’s mood, which can influence a person’s behavior, which, in turn, can determine the success of a person’s personal and professional relationships,” the measure states.
