Rick Brown, vice president of JMA Sierra Adventures LLC, loves his classic wooden boats. Brown, 54, has been behind the boat wheel from the age of 13 when he and his family spent summers in the Tahoe area water skiing and picnicking. He also owns Homewood Mountain Resort in Lake Tahoe. Living on the shores of paradise doesn’t mean skipping out on work, however. When I’m not working, I’m in a boat,” he explains.
Brown bought his favorite boat five years ago, a 1932 classic wooden Runabout Chris-Craft, and named it “Satisfaction” for the night he and his wife met at a Rolling Stones concert in Sacramento. Unlike some diehards, Brown considers himself fortunate to have a wife who enjoys boating as much as he does, if not more. “She races me to the boat to see who can get in the fastest,” he says. Not surprisingly, their three kids love boats, too. Brown keeps the family boating tradition going strong with trips in the fall down the Sacramento River, sometimes with one of his two daughters at the helm.
