Sales Rep Goes the Rounds to Lose Pounds, Sharpen Skills

“All my life, I’ve run with the boys,” says Megan Cohill. “Now I play business with the boys. I always believed my success is due to my competitive, athletic side.” The 27-year-old Folsom resident and Sacramento-area native sits on a spartan, locker-room style bench at Prime Time Boxing, a boxing/fitness/activity center on Del Paso Boulevard.
Since August, Cohill has been a sales representative for the San Francisco field office of TEKsystems, a staffing agency headquartered in Baltimore. She faces plenty of competition in her line of work, selling information technology (IT) staffing solutions to large telecommunications companies.
She slips into industry terminology and explains that her company places people (staffing solutions) skilled in IT. Clients, including Nextel and Cingular, typically are on a contract or temp-to-permanent basis. The contracts involve jobs from entry-level technicians to project managers.
To stay ahead of her competition, Cohill drives several hundred miles a week. She logs big miles just to reach her sales territory, which is centered on the East Bay side of San Francisco. She’s on the road every day, nurturing relationships with her clients in the morning and planning out the next day’s route in the afternoon.
