“If a dealer has had a typical look for many years and isn’t adaptable, the business will die,” says Bannon. “Dealers today need to hunt down unusual items in order to compete, and the art of display and staging items becomes even more important.”
Bannon and Crystal work tirelessly, researching and watching for decorating trends and unusual items that match them. The pair is known in dealer circles as the “dark” and the “light” as they travel the back roads of little-known haunts to dig up unusual and compelling goods.
Looking for dark oddities amid commonplace collectibles can be a tedious undertaking. “That’s how I found the body transport,” one of her favorite finds, says Crystal. The item was dusty and hidden behind a counter of more mainstream Whether in ancient or modern trades, Hands On celebrates the craftsman. If you are doing business ambidextrously, contact collectibles. In an earlier time, a body transport was a container placed in a glass-windowed buggy to carry the more prominent dead to their gravesite.
“That’s where Crystal has an edge,” says Bannon. “Her items are so unusual and interesting, and hers is certainly not your typical antique store.”
