Their popularity inspired her own medicinal line and Gothic Rose label (for de?cor only), such as Mandrake Root, Widows Oil and the Undertaker’s Private Reserve. Their prices range from $49 to $225.
Thrill of a Dark Lifestyle
Still, her favorite customers are those who love the darkly designed de?cor and want to surround themselves, dress themselves and consume the thrill of a dark lifestyle. Crystal most desires customers who appreciate her work and connect, as she does, to a dark and romantic ambiance, those who are truly fascinated with the unknown.
In sharp contrast, Crystal’s longtime colleague and shopping partner, Jana Bannon, displays delightful, light and natural Victorian treasures in her successful shop, Cottage Girls Antiques, on Palm Street in Carmichael.
“I believe the antique market has changed in Sacramento,” says Bannon. “It’s not a typical market anymore, as the general public doesn’t necessarily care if a piece is old, as long as it looks old.”
Many antique dealers are selling new reproductions, which negate the hunt, and are turning to eBay to sell their collectibles. That fact raises the bar for antique dealers who want to stay in business.
