What is a self-respecting wage slave to do?
In the 21st century, the idea that anyone will spend an entire career working for one company — the birthright of the previous generation — is a quaint notion rapidly fading into obscurity. Companies come and go with the seasons, and along with them go the jobs. Employees, emboldened by the free-agent market for CEOs, where job-jumping and wretched financial excess are considered the norm, have jettisoned loyalty along with any shred of interest in a long-term career.
Instead, there is an orgy of job searching fueled by online sites such as Monster.com and social networks such as LinkedIn and mega-classified aggregators Craigslist and the like.
But face it. This is passive — the cast a wider net, flotsam-and-jetsam approach to career building. Prosper thinks there’s a better way. Why not take control of your destiny, go back to school and build a new future, one class at a time?
To help you get off the dime and make a move, we’ve profiled leading northern California educators and their institutions. We’ve included a profile of the dean of Pacific McGeorge law school, the president of Sacramento State and the chairwoman of the state’s board of two-year colleges.
In addition, we’ve taken a hard look at masters of public administration programs for public sector folks and supplied an overview of the current state of business education at leading two-year business and executive management programs across the region.
So, what’s stopping you? Get out there, hit the books and fire up your career. With a professional degree in your clutches, the corner suite may be within reach. Of course, it probably won’t be where you’re working today, but just think how big that golden parachute will be … not to mention how good it will feel to cash in all those back-dated options.
