Advancing The Plan
 Q I own a sheet metal company in Sacramento. We have 54 employees and serve customers in Northern California. We finished our annual strategic-planning retreat in December and have our goals for 2006. After the retreat, everyone was very excited and aligned to what we needed to accomplish in the upcoming year. Now, we are one-quarter of the way into the year, and we have not even started on our goals. We spent two full days of planning, and I am not sure how to pull the team together to implement this plan. Can you help?

It is not unusual that management teams spend time and money planning for the next year and the plans are never completed. In fact, 95 percent of strategic plans are never implemented. There are a few things you should do to ensure your plan is implemented.
