Directions: The Mondavi Center is located on the southeast portion of the UC Davis campus. Take I-80 and get off at the UC Davis/Mondavi Center exit.

Arrival: There is a parking lot adjacent to the center (currently $6). Plan to arrive 30 minutes before the show begins and enjoy a glass of wine while you wait in the grand lobby.

Before the Show

Dining: A number of nearby restaurants offer free appetizers, desserts or discounts to Mondavi Center guests. Show your ticket to the server. Make you way to Bistro 33 (free dessert) if you are in the mood for Pacific Northwest-inspired dishes. You can swing by Woodland’s Satiety Winery (20 percent discount) for a tasting and then go to Il Fornaio for authentic Italian cuisine (free dessert). For a complete listing go to mondaviarts.org/restaurants.

Nature Walk: Right next to the Mondavi Center is the UC Davis Arboretum, a public garden with more than 4,000 types of trees and plants. If it is warm enough, take a walk and enjoy the scenery as you pass by Putah Creek.

Once Inside

The Best Seat in the House: It varies, depending on the performance. For an orchestra, you might want to sit farther back where the sound blends and you can see the whole stage. For dance, the first tier on the first balcony is perfect for catching all the moves with just the right perspective. For a piano recital, sit on the left side of the theater to see the pianist’s technique. And, of course, there’s always front-row center.

Intermission: The mid-show breaks usually last about 20 minutes. Make your way to the lobby at the front of the building where you can buy cookies or a pretzel and wine or beer and soak in the ambiance.

Theater Etiquette: Turn off your cell phones. Also, for security purposes, backpacks are not allowed in the theater. If you bring them, you will need to check them with customer service. The center does not enforce a dress code.
